WHAT IS POWERZONE?
RELIVING THE BEST MUSIC of ALL TIME & DISCOVERING A FEW NEW SURPRISES
Powerzone is an internet stream that broadcasts online for a few hours at a time, a few times a month.
It is compiled and presented by Paul Rands, who has been involved in the Australian radio industry since 1992.
The Powerzone name originates from a program originally presented in the 80s and 90s by Lloyd Bunting on community radio stations 2XX, 2VTR, SWR FM and AIR FM. Paul started using the Powerzone name and format with permission at AIR FM.
The shows intro uses the intro of Propaganda’s 1980s hit “Jewel”, which was also used by the Channel 7 TV network as an intro to their some of their sporting coverage in the 1980s and 1990s.
In its original form, Powerzone showcased what Lloyd would describe as “V8 Powered Rock”, a phrase used often by both Lloyd and Paul in Powerzone’s heyday. Paul’s Powerzone retains a lot of this kind of music, but has a strong focus on hard to find / forgotten hits once prevalent on the Australian charts in the 70s, 80s and 90s, plus a few favourites as well as a few selections from overseas and also from the 2000s and 2010s that tend to fit with the older stuff.
You can make a request by using the Request & Contact page. Include your song, your name and your location and will be included in an upcoming Powerzone.
